 The Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Coast Guard ask you to take part in AMERICA'S WATERWAY WATCH.

Help keep America's Waterways safe and secure.

Secure and lock your boat when not on board.  Take the keys.  Disable the engine on stored or trailered boats, and make sure the boat is not easily moved.

BE AWARE OF SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

Where:

bullet Under and around bridges, tunnels or overpasses
bullet Near commercial areas or services like ports, fuel docks, cruise ships or marinas
bullet Near industrial facilities like power plants and oil, chemical or water intake facilities
bullet Near military bases and vessels, other government facilities or security zones

What:

bullet People appearing to be engaged in surveillance of any kind (note taking, shooting video/photos, making sketches or asking questions)
bullet People not fitting the surrounding environment such as individuals wearing improper attire
bullet People recovering or tossing items into/onto the waterway or shoreline
bullet Unattended vessels or vehicles in unusual locations
bullet Lights flashing between boats
bullet Unusual diving activity
bullet Unusual number of people onboard
bullet Unusual night operation
bullet Operating in or passing through an area that does not typically have such activity
bullet Missing fencing or lighting near sensitive locations
bullet Anchoring in an area not typically used for anchorage
bullet Transfer of people or thing between ships/boats or between ship and shore
bullet People showing uncommon interest in security measures, entry points or access controls
bullet Individuals establishing businesses or roadside food stands near sensitive locations
bullet Small planes flying over critical area
bullet people attempting to buy or rent fishing or recreational vessels with cash for short-term undefined use
